FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT

Invite me over to your place for a documentary-style photoshoot, with a sprinkling of light art direction. Or, we can skip your home and meet in a nearby park, or do a little of both. All seasons are good seasons for family photoshoots.

I will create a mix of both portraits and spontaneous photos that highlight your unique family’s best qualities. You’ll receive a web portfolio of magazine-quality high resolution photos that you can download and create your own books, prints and more. I can help you with that too.

Think of this as a special visual time capsule of your family.

Within NYC and the surrounding Tri-State area.

“They are fabulous! Thank you so much for doing such a wonderful job capturing our family.”

- Cindy

“Working with Carey is the best decision you can make!

I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Carey not only professionally but also personally. She is an Artist in every sense of her life. I have the most beautiful memories capturing my family and I over the years.

Carey’s vision is impeccable in capturing the essence of us as individuals and as a family. Carey always makes us comfortable, is patient, captures the perfect lighting, suggests creative photos we would never think of, and she is the kindest and most empathetic woman I know.

Through her fine art photography she has captured a lifetime of memories we will cherish forever! Working with Carey is the best decision you can make!” - Desiree

Commercial clients & everyday people

I have over 20 years experience working with a variety of clients, from photographing advertising campaigns for large house-hold name brands, nonprofit organizations, to art directing and photographing website photos for mom and pop shops, to creating social media content for solo-entrepreneurs.

Photographing people in a documentary style, and portraits of everyday people, whether it’s families, kids, sisters, etc, has been my specialty for over twenty years.

FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do I have to have kids (or young kids) to do this photoshoot? How about just me and my spouse, teen / adult kids, dogs, birds, etc.?

You don’t have to have young kids (or any kids) to take advantage of this family photoshoot offer. I can also just photograph your kids if you prefer. Come as you are!

  • What should we wear?

I recommend wearing solid colors like ‘jewel tones’ instead of pastels or white / black, but you can wear whatever feels good. It’s great if you can be somewhat wrinkle-free.

  • What if my kid doesn’t cooperate?

Most people are worried about this and I totally understand - it helps that I’m a mom of a highly-sensitive child who has special needs, and so I have a ton of patience and creative ideas. Music can help, and I try to bring a little finger puppet or something age-appropriate that I can use to help break the ice. I also try to just hang out a bit for the first few minutes without taking any photos. Just pretend you’re having a new friend over for tea and leave it up to me :).

Hello! I’m Carey,

I’m an award-winning fine art and commercial photographer with over 20 years experience. I’m also a mom of a 6.5 year old boy, and we live in Brooklyn, NYC with my husband and our dog. I’m passionate about mental health, motherhood, signs from the Universe, and connecting with others who are on a mission to improve our world.

I also offer portraits and custom photo libraries for businesses, helping them share their messages authentically.

And I’m the creator of the L.E.N.S. Method™, creative photography workshops and courses helping both adults and teens learn how to use their own creative photography as a tool for calmness, connection and personal growth. Smartphone camera-friendly. When I was 12 years old, I declared I would either be a photographer or a therapist of some sort. I created LENS through my own journey healing my mental health, and boosting my self-image, with the help of my favorite creative medium, photography.

L.E.N.S. Method™ Photo Course Pre-sale! Group photo sharing sessions included!! One for teens & one for adults.

How can a smartphone photography course support mental health?

L.E.N.S. stands for:

Light • Empathy • Now (present-moment) • Storytelling (through photos & the inner stories we tell ourselves)

This unique digital course inspires personal growth and emotional connection through a fun and accessible creative medium, digital photography (smartphone camera-friendly).

It’s creative photography with a focus on personal growth and stress resilience. It’s about reimagining the use of smartphone photography to benefit our hearts and minds.

L.E.N.S. stands for light, empathy, now and storytelling. I share ‘photo story prompts’ and host live group photo sharing sessions via Zoom to boost calmness, creativity & authentic connection.

The framework and method I’ve created are a simple yet powerful way to explore the 5 Pillars of Stress Resilience.

If I could go back in time and hang out with my teenaged self, I would share that there are 5 Pillars of Emotional Resilience, and that nurturing each one of them is a key to becoming a happy and successful adult.

My teenaged self would have rolled her eyes and continued dreaming about being a professional photographer for The New York Times Magazine.

But if I could have learned these concepts while doing something fun that I already loved (making photos), then maybe it just might have ‘clicked’ and come in handy.

This is the type of thing that most of us aren’t taught in schools or growing up, but wish we had been exposed to in some way.

Make it stand out

The lens through which you see yourself, has a direct effect on how you experience the world around you.

I’ve created this program by way of healing my own emotional and mental health, and my love for creative photography. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m nowhere near an emotional health ninja, and I don’t have it all figured out. But I do know that leaning on a creative outlet has been a HUGE help to me.

I’ve learned so much over the past 20 years healing my depression, anxiety and more. And now I want to use what I’ve learned to help others live happier more fulfilled lives, through creative photography.

Below are examples of pages in photo books I made using images created by teen girls in a L.E.N.S. Method™ workshop with me. Each girl received her own customized book using her images along with positive affirmations and quotes.

When I’m not working, most of my time is spent with my son, and of course he’s my favorite muse to photograph.

These photos were from a couple of years ago. He’s 6.5 and growing so fast! Maybe you can relate?
